3 Major Reasons Why You Are Constantly Losing Hair | SR Beauty

Shedding is a natural process that happens to everyone, but losing any amount of hair can be quite scary. Hair loss is probably one of those things you only think about when you’re arguing with your flatmate about who plugged up the shower drain again. Shedding naturally takes place when we wash, comb or style our hair. However, if you’re noticing an excessive about of hair falling off your head, you may be going through a form of hair loss.

If you’re going through excessive hair loss, here are three main reasons why…

1. Stress!

Stress and anxiety can play a huge role in affecting your hair. Any kind of physical trauma, surgery, a car accident, a severe illness, irregular sleep, lack of an appetite even the flu can cause temporary hair loss. This can trigger a type of hair loss called telogen effluvium. Hair has a programmed life cycle: a growth phase, rest phase and shedding phase. When you have a really stressful event, it can shock the hair cycle, (pushing) more hair into the shedding phase. Your body can react to that stress by prematurely speeding up the resting phase, resulting in shedding. Be sure to assess your stress levels and try to keep it to a minimum.

2. Lack of Vitamins

Keeping up with your vitamins is essential in preventing excessive shedding. Hair follicles need to have certain vitamins in order to be healthy and allow hair to grow. Calcium (broccoli, milk), Iron (red meat, spinach), and Protein (meat, nuts, cheese) are crucial in preventing shedding! They enrich our blood, and ensure proper hair growth. Eat well and take supplements.

3. Moisture and Protein Imbalance

According to The Science of Black Hair, “The unique relationship that exists between the protein and moisture balances within the hair strand is not simply a case of balancing opposing forces one over the other to prevent hair breakage. These two components work together synergistically to produce a healthy head of hair, and neither can work well without the other. Keeping the hair balanced between these two entities is very important.” Remember always that balance is key!
